Obesity in America
Obesity is that which is defined by body mass index of that who are 30 or greater. BMI of a person can be easily calculated by height, weight and with body fatness and weight calories as it leads to health issues. To whom who are suffering from obesity are at higher risk of cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes and cancer.
America is one of the most prgressive as well as richest country of the world but you will surprise to hear that American people’s are perhaps unhealthiest people in the world. There is no doubt that America has greatest economic power and also technically they are very strong but people here have very small nutritional knowledge and that is the reason they are becoming obese or over-weight.
A recent survey concludes that America has many obese person. Obesity in adults here increased by 60% if compared to last 20 years. From last 30 years obesity in children have now goes to three times. So, about 33% of American adults are now obese and also death rate of obese is also reaches to 300,000 per year which is second highest cause of death.
Even 20% of Hawaiians children are obese. Another study concludes that Pima Indians who live in Arizona are at higher risk of obestiy and and also becoming too. On the other hand those who live in Mexico are at less risk rather both have same ethnic and genetic background.
Now, this is a huge question to think that why the American people are getting this? And what are the reason they are different from other people in the world? The reason is American lifestyle as well as their diet. They used to eat fast foods and microwave dinner and thus their health pays. They have replaced the fresh, wholesome diet with packaged, refined and processed foods. We are pleased that we got technology that we can process the food for longer time but it is also true that during the processing of food we have lost the food. Also, these foods are laden with hydrogenated oils, sugars and those items which are main culprits of serious health issues.
From last 30 years, fast foods have managed to make their place because of their quick service, low prices and taste. You will surprise to hear that these foods are flodded with empty calories means have no nutrition. The main part of the food is saturated fat and high refined carbohydrates. A diet survey says that an adult should have about 65 grams of fats and thus 2000 calories in a day. If you eat a large burger, you will get 50 grams of fat and also 2000 calories which is what you needed in just one day.
There is a definition of food – a nutritious eatable item which provides you energy to sustain growth, energy and also promotes growth but the lifestyle of America perhaps changes the whole definition of food. It seems food is what which is fatty, tasty, processed, refined and have no nutients for them. If they want to stay away from obesity then they must learn to avoid fast foods, high sugar, high sodium foods, procesed foods. By this way they can get their health back.
